Vista 32-bit vs. 64 bit
The address used for the lookup with a PTE is 32-bit. Sigh. All mechanisms that lets the os support more than 4GB for several processes, can be used to Whenever the app reloads a segment register, (ie trying to use a 48-bit pointer where the segment descriptor differs from the last pointer used) then the OS get

Basic question: What is a 32 bit OS?
[snip] A double-precision fp number is 64 bits. So will a 64-bit system (eg An HP-C160 upwards or DEC Alpha) be a lot better than a 32 bit system, or is it just integer performance that will increase (ie do I get double precision fp registers)? Yes, you get double precision fp registers with a 64 bit machine.

Just in case, this is an issue that does not involve 32-bit vs. 64-bit versions of the PDF IFilter, you should review the following KB articles and if possible I have sucessfully installed the ifilters on a test cluster running the 32-bit versions of the same software and they work as expected (ie they work).

Seriously, the Microsoft compilers I've used all had size_t as a 32 bit quantity. Presumably, if and when Microsoft extends their compiler to support 64 bit did *not* make their 'long' 64 bits on Windows x64. It's amusing. They claim backward compatibility, ie they did not want to break any existing code.
